Drive! - это программа для тестирования производительности жесткого диска. Она является идеологической преемницей теста HddSpeed, который de-facto стал стандартом в FIDO-шной эхоконференции SU.HARDW.PC.MEDIA. К сожалению, ограничения, присущие всем тестовым DOS-программам, не позволяют HddSpeed корректно работать со многими современными жесткими дисками.
В связи с этим было принято решение создать новый тест, свободный от этих недостатков. На данный момент существует версия Drive! для Windows NT 4.0 (тестировалась с SP3,4,5 и 6). Функциональные возможности программы пока весьма ограничены (по сравнению с HddSpeed), но как тест производительности дисковой подсистемы она уже достаточно неплоха.
Для того чтобы не мучаться лихорадочными поисками того самого злосчастного компакт-диска с драйверами к периферийному оборудованию, которое обычно еще и является уникальным (то есть на момент переустановки системы оно либо снято с производства, либо официальный сайт производителя не содержит никакой полезно информации о том, как можно скачать драйвера, а также какой они версии, и под какую операционную систему), достаточно воспользоваться еще одним сборщиком этих файлов, а именно Driver Genius Pro. При первом запуске программы предлагается обновить базу данных с сайта разработчика (на случай перегрузки у него есть «зеркало»), а потом произвести сразу же сканирование системы на наличие драйверов для бэкапа. Найденные файлы можно сохранить как ZIP-архив, так и в самораспаковывающийся архив, а высший пилотаж — автоинсталлятор (то есть установка драйверов в «тихом режиме»). По поводу последнего пункта есть один нюанс — в бесплатной версии программы могут быть экспортированы только драйвера видеокарты и сетевой карты (коммерческая версия сохраняет все подряд). Экспортированные данные можно проверить антивирусом (правда, только тем, что установлен в системе). Еще один плюс — мастер диагностики устройств, выдающий информацию о том, работает ли драйвер или нет, предлагая незамедлительно решить эту проблему, если она существует.
Из минусов этой программы можно отметить просто ненормальный перевод терминов на русский язык, по этой причине утилитой придется пользоваться только в нативной англоязычной версии.
